2024 Year in Review

2024 Year in Review

Growth of our Team

We’re excited to see our team steadily growing in size in response to the positive growth in work loads and client base.

We’ve always been very careful with our growth over the years. We’ve intentionally aimed to keep our team relatively small and close knit, ensuring the working ethos that makes EirEng what it is, is maintained.

Project Stats

We’ve had a wide range of projects ongoing through 2024.

A total of 232 Project Engagements have been recorded, with 156 of those becoming Live and 55 out of those being Completed. It’s been a busy year for projects starting on site.

A large proportion of our work is in the Logistic and Distribution sectors, where we have been delivering a combination of new build facilities, alterations, and extensions to increase the automation and robotics capabilities for our clients.

We have also experienced an increased workload across a diverse range of sectors, including residential apartments and commercial offices.

Our Education and Healthcare sector work is driven by our involvement in modular construction, where we have been supporting Procon, Fitzmac and Silent Aire with their offsite fabrication and coordination with onsite foundations. The development of taller multistorey construction systems has been exciting too.

Alongside Modular design work, other Contractor Services such as Steel Connection designs, RC detailing, Temporary Works and MEP Support designs have continued in force.

Logistics Sector Insights

Following the large increases in online shopping volumes brought forward by the Covid-19 pandemic, 2023 was a year in which the logistics sector regrouped. EirEng saw a number of larger scale projects being put on hold, but we maintained the support of our existing clients through inspection and maintenance work, as well as developing feasibility studies for the adaptation and extension of existing facilities to allow for future increases in automation and robotics across a wide range of our client’s existing assets.

2024 saw the return of some of those major projects that were put on hold, as well as a number of the feasibility studies – adapting the existing portfolios – being put into action.  EirEng also saw a number of newer clients starting projects, all of which will be continuing through 2025, creating a very positive outlook for the sector in the coming year.

We’re excited to see the implementation of these projects, bringing about a combination of new dedicated facilities built to the highest standards, alongside the adaptive reuse of existing structures – increasing the value and efficiency of existing facilities with minimised embodied carbon impacts.

Personal Achievements

This past year saw notable recognition of our staff’s achievements, with Yang Bian nominated and coming runner up in two separate industry awards celebrations.

Firstly, at the Women in Construction 2024 as a Rising Star, and secondly at the Irish Early Career Awards 2024 in the Construction and Engineering category.

A number of our other staff members continue their higher education studies in Engineering, Project Management and Computational Design. We look forward to embarrassing them with congratulatory posts in the coming year.

ISO Standards & ESG Credentials

We’ve continued our maintenance and expansion of ISO9001 and have been looking also at formalising our existing approach/workflows with ISO14001 (Environment), ISO19650 (BIM), and ISO27001 (Data).

We’ve also taken our first steps to begin monitoring our corporate ESG credentials, such that we can record our environmental, social, and governance footprint in 2025/26, and allow us to react affectively and improve in the years to come.

Social Events

We love gathering our staff together throughout the year. Notably, our Summer getaway took us to Galway this year where we sparked some friendly competitiveness at the Go Kart track before heading into the city.  Our staff-run sports and social club had us enjoying dumplings for Chinese New Year, Summer BBQ’s with staff and families, Boules sessions in the park, pub and restaurant visits, sailing and airsoft, and of course the annual Christmas get togethers.

Charitable and Community Projects

EirEng are proud to have sponsored both Rosemount Mulvey FC U11s and FC Bath U9s soccer football teams for the 2024/25 season.  (Soccer for our Irish friends, Football for our English counterparts!)

We have also continued our support of the Nsobe Development Trust Schools in Zambia, contributing to the finance and build of new Teachers’ Housing.  Organised by Fiona Tomlinson and the Cuala GAA Club members, the school campus goes from strength to strength each year, we look forward to further continued involvement in 2025 and beyond.

Notable Project Milestones

  • NIKE – We have been working with our partners and collaborators at Momentum Projects Ltd, to deliver scheme designs, site selection, client monitoring as construction has begun on a new UK logistics hub for the sportswear giant.
  • Oxford Osney Veil – We provided steel connection and frame design to the steel fabricators delivering a new steel framed façade (or veil) upon the extension of Oxford University’s Said Business School revamp of an ex power station.
  • Gollierstown – Work on site has commenced for construction of 1,240,000 sq. ft. m2 of industrial and logistics space across 12 units, along with the surrounding 78-acre campus-style infrastructure set within attractive external landscaping.

Expanding Sectors for EirEng

  • EV Vehicles
    • There has been a notable increase in interest for EV parking facilities, whether this be for consumers accessing city centres or for distribution network providers charging their fleet of delivery vans.
    • Our experience in multistorey and surface parking facilities has been growing and adapting to the new requirements of EV – coordinating services distribution and assessing the loading criteria of the latest personal vehicles and workers vans
  • Data Centres
    • In 2024 our engagement in data centre projects increased in number, where we have continued to provide client reviewing roles as trusted advisors, and began our first projects on the design team delivering a significant data centre infrastructure project on the outskirts of London.
  • New Robotics
    • Our clients in the retail distribution continue to increase the automation and robotics in their facilities and we have seen a new range of projects commencing – a deep retrofit, back calculating existing capacities, adding mezzanines, and extending existing facilities. We help clients do more with what they already have.

2025 and Beyond

2025 is already well underway, and the with the project pipeline looking strong we carry the lessons and achievements of 2024 with us on the journey ahead.

We’ll be growing carefully and strategically, building further strength and resilience into our organisation through the significant abilities of the individuals in our team . We’re building on our existing systems, adding more automation and technology to always seek improvements in what we deliver and how we deliver it.

Here’s to positive and constructive 2025.
