The project included the removal of a number of existing ground floor masonry walls to enable construction of a new single storey extension to the rear of a mid-terraced property.
EirEng designed a system of structural steelwork to support retained first floor structure and new external masonry cavity walls to achieve the Architectural designed open plan living space.
The design included a steel moment frame parallel with the back elevation, to reintroduce adequate lateral stability to the structure.
New pad and strip foundations were designed to cater for the additional loads applied by the new extension, including appropriate heave protection for the encountered clay soils.
