The project comprised significant structural alterations to accommodate a revised architectural layout alongside the construction of a new single-storey extension. Several existing masonry walls were removed to achieve the updated internal configuration. To maintain structural performance, a coordinated system of steel beams, padstones, steel columns, and lintels were introduced in locations where load-bearing masonry had been removed, ensuring adequate support to the first-floor structure.
New foundations were installed where necessary, and existing foundations were inspected and verified for their adequacy under the additional loads arising from the extension and the internal reconfiguration. At the rear of the property, where the original external wall was removed, a new moment frame was installed to provide essential lateral stability and preserve the overall integrity of the building.
As an additional component of the project, a small independent gym structure was constructed in the rear garden. This standalone building was formed on a raft foundation and built using timber stud walls with timber rafters, providing a lightweight and efficient solution suitable for the intended use.
Through these combined interventions, the project ensured that all new and modified elements met required safety, structural, and architectural standards while delivering the desired functional and aesthetic outcomes.
