EirEng are proud to have provided structural consultancy and design services for the refurbishment and extension of a former steel foundry into a high-tech agricultural facility. The new indoor farm near Bristol will provide 70 tennis courts worth of growing space able to supply fresh produce to UK supermarkets all year round.

As part of a joint effort to promote the sustainable reuse of buildings, EirEng worked closely with Jones Food Co. to utilise as much of the existing structure as possible and limit the requirements for demolition.

The scope of services provided by EirEng included:

1. Checking of existing steelwork under new design loads
2. Structural steel design of new lean-to extensions
3. Foundation Design of new steel structures
4. Design of retaining structures for the extension of the existing basement

The farm became operational in summer 2023 with full growing capacity achieved shortly afterwards.
