Ocado CFC 10 Luton

This project included fit-out and strengthening works for the Ocado CFC in Luton capable of satisfying 65,000 orders per week. Primary works were within an existing 32,000 m2 (345,000 sq ft.) warehouse to adapt to a temperature controlled automated CFC. The project also included the fit-out of offices, construction of a plant building and other ancillary buildings, a sprinkler tank support plinth, modification to existing docks, and extensive civils works.

The fit-out included four levels of steel framed mezzanines in Ambient and Chill areas, designed in accordance with the strict performance criteria associated with Ocado’s proprietary OSP system used for automated picking of orders. It also included the strengthening of the existing steel frame to cater for additional loads from the new ceilings, sprinklers, safety lines, and M&E equipment.

EirEng were responsible for the design of new foundations to suit the fit out works which involved removing and reinstating portions of the existing ground-bearing slab to allow the foundations to be installed.

EirEng were responsible for the Civil engineering works on site to modify the existing drainage and yard areas to suit Ocado’s specific requirements.
