Belgrave Road, Dublin

The project located in Monkstown, Dublin entailed the demolition of an internal load-bearing wall, replacing it with a new steel support frame to create an open space between the kitchen, dining room, and living area.

A design check was required to verify the first floor and adjacent roof support structure and to determine the tie-in detail to the new support frame.

Temporary works considerations were critical to the design, due to the complexity of the existing support structure which had to be removed to facilitate the works.

Consideration of the building’s stability, provided by the internal walls, was accounted for by fixing the new steel support frame to the perimeter walls and ensuring sufficient sway capacity.
