On this project EirEng acted as Sainsbury’s civil and structural engineering representative on the base-build which was completed by Prologis and then provided full civil and structural engineering services for the fitout works completed by Sainsburys.
The base-build consisted of the construction of a 24,000m2 warehouse and associated external yard areas and a multi-storey office block on the gable. The office block is linked via a pedestrian bridge to the associates’ car park at ground level opposite.
EirEng assisted in developing the base build specifications with the developer’s team to ensure Sainsburys requirements for the frozen chamber fit out works were incorporated into the base build design. This included making an allowance in the frame design for the loads associated with the freezer box and the associated plant that included gantries at roof level. The base build also included the construction of multi-level Technical Services Block (TSB) for the fitout refrigeration plant.
The fitout works dovetailed with the base build and included the installation of the frozen box and the freezer floor slab construction including a heater mat below same. Temperature controlled dock wharfs were constructed on both the goods-in and goods-out side of the warehouse. Cooler support steelwork was installed and pipework gantries that provided access for maintenance were provided at roof level and on the gable providing a route for the refrigeration pipework from the TSB.
Full height access ladders and platforms for the roof gantries and the void above the freezer box were provided on the gable of the warehouse. A sprinkler tank and associated slab were also constructed along with a waste management area.
The project was delivered within a very tight programme for both the base build and the fitout through successful collaboration between all parties on both the developer’s and the tenants team.
