Tesco Extra Store – Liffey Valley

Tesco Extra Store – Liffey Valley

The Tesco Extra Store at Liffey Valley involved the construction of new Tesco Extra format 60 store (60,00ft2) on a site within the Liffey Valley Retail Park.

The store was constructed on stilts with under croft car parking. A number of retail units were also provided at the car park level. The service yard for the store is elevated above the car park.

The store is a highly carbon-efficient design, and the structure consists of a structural steel frame on pad foundations. The floor plates utilise composite metal decks with the suspended service yard designed to accommodate HGV loading.

The existing subgrade was improved using soil stabilisation to optimise the pavement designs and as part of the balanced cut and fill strategy design. The drainage strategy for the site incorporated SuDs as part of the surface water design solution. There is also a landscaped link boulevard to the Liffey Valley Shopping Centre.

The project was completed using BIM to ensure a coordinated design approach between all parties. Early involvement from specialist contractors such as the cladding and the roofing contractor ensured design issues were resolved at an early stage and not on-site during construction.
