Terry’s trip to Zambia

EirEng are pleased to have supported Director Terry Sheenan on his recent trip to Zambia. The focus of the trip, organised by the Cuala Initiative, was the construction of a headmaster’s house for the Nsobe School. Terry found himself wearing the “Head of Construction” hat.

Looking back on his time in Zambia, Terry had the following to say about the Initiative “I should have started doing this earlier in my life as it was one of the best experiences I have had. Many thanks to Kevin Spain for organising the trip.”

EirEng and Terry’s commitment to sustainability was evident through using hand-made bricks (from termite mounds) and ensuring that zero waste was a reality.

The construction aspect of the trip was just one element of a much broader project, including training teachers and students in leadership, carrying out medical screening and many other tasks. The group had diverse skills that they put to good use.

EirEng, as a company, are committed to supporting such causes and can only commend Terry for selflessly giving up his time and expertise. Thanks must also be apportioned to both the group of volunteers involved and also our clients that supported this endeavour and made the trip possible.

As an ongoing commitment, these trips come around quickly. During December, EirEng Project Engineer Manus Bester will be visiting Nsobe School to plan for next summer’s build. We wish the team luck on this next stage, and look forward to continuing our support of the initiative.
