Y10 Work Experience
We recently had a brilliant young student from Hayesfield School for Girls, in Bath, spending her year 10 work experience week in our office.
Isabel did an amazing job taking on the RIBA Architectural Folly design challenge. With some help and guidance from our engineers Isabel was quickly getting stuck into the design process from brief to inception, scheming, verifying, modelling, and visualising –
- Site Research – where is the Folly going to be built? What are the geological features, flood risks, accessibility, local materials;
- Precedents – what has been done before, different styles, forms, functions and approaches;
- Scheme Design – Choosing an architectural style, sketching out the form, considering materials and construction;
- Structural Verifications –Reviewing gravity loadpaths and using some simple calculations to check there is enough material where it needs to be;
- SketchUp Modelling – Learning some 3D modelling skills with SketchUp and getting the scheme design into a thought through concept;
- Midjourney AI Rendering –In order to generate photo-realistic visualisations of the folly insitu, at the proposed site location, Isabel used Midjourney to combine her SketchUp images with site photos and text prompts, to create some really striking images!
