Coolock Library Refurbishment

EirEng were appointed by Dublin City Council following a competitive tender to provide civil and structural engineering services on the refurbishment of existing Coolock Library. As part of the refurbishment works, the library was moved into temporary accommodation for the duration of the works.

The existing building was originally built in approximately 1990s using traditional load bearing external blockwork walls and an timber trussed roof structure with non-loading bearing internal partitions.

The refurbishment involved a full strip out and internal layout alterations. The layout changes included new breakout spaces with a green area, storytelling areas and a model space. EirEng ensured existing structure was not compromised by the proposed refurbishment works and where interventions where required engineering solutions were developed that were aligned with the existing structures capacity and form.

The external finishes to the car park area where refurbished and the external entrance was also re-modelled as part of the works.
