Ocado CFC 3 Andover

This project involved the reconstruction of the Ocado CFC in Andover, consisting of a 20,000m² (217,000 sq. ft) temperature controlled automated CFC which fulfils up to 60,000 customer orders per week. The project also included the construction of 2,500m² of new offices over a link road, a Technical Services Block (plant building), van wash, sprinkler tank base, vehicle maintenance unit, a multi storey car park, and a pedestrian access bridge. Extensive reworking of the yards and car parks was also completed to suit the new building layouts.

Our responsibility included the full Civil and Structural Engineering works for Base Build and Fit Out stages of the project. The fit out included four levels of steel framed mezzanines in Ambient, Chill and Freezer areas, designed in accordance with the strict performance criteria associated with Ocado’s proprietary OSP system used for automated picking of orders. EirEng were also responsible for the design of new pad foundations to suit the fit out and base build works, and for the Civil engineering works on site to modify the existing drainage and yard areas to suit Ocado’s specific requirements.

The design was carried out on the basis of a BIM Compliant suite of documents, including the BIM compliant Revit model which was developed in conjunction with the Design Team and submitted to the contractors for the construction works.
